Welcome to my read-aloud section! This week, to celebrate
Christmas, I have chosen the very famous story The Night
Before Christmas. I will be leaving this story up until we
return from winter break! Click the link to read the story
at home with your child. Merry Christmas!

The Night Before Christmas

Spelling, Phonics, Reading, and Math Practice

Starfall
Starfall is a reading/phonics/math site that offers a wide variety of fun games that children can play at school and/or home. Schools have full licenses, but please remember that this one is not a full license, so not every activity is available, but some are free. We will use Starfall in the classroom, but please feel free to use it at home, too. Have fun learning!
Spelling City
Spelling City is a game where you, as the parent, can create your own spelling tests for your child. While we do not have spelling lists or tests in kindergarten, this would be good for helping your child learn how to spell his/her high frequency words from memory. As we learn them at school, simply plug the words you want to use into the test generator and it will verbally give the child a spelling test. He/she listens and spells it out.
Raz-Kids!
Raz-Kids! is a reading website that challenges children on a variety of levels. It correlates with our school's A-Z Readers program. Each student's account will begin them at the appropriate reading level. To move up to the next level, students must complete three tasks for each story they read. If our school orders a license, I will assign student usernames and passwords. This decision has not yet been made.
IXL Math!
This link will take you to the kindergarten page on the math website IXL (I excel). It is filled with kindergarten math skills that are categorized by operation. At this time, I would recommend choosing sections A, B, C, H, M, P, and V for practicing at home with your child. This will help build the foundation of automaticity skills in kindergarten mathematics.
